WINTER HAVEN, Fla. - The Bard College baseball team was swept by Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, 6-2 and 11-5, in the finale of their Florida trip on Tuesday.
The Raptors (0-5) got a great start from
JP Fisher in the first game. He gave up six hits and no earned runs over six innings with six strikeouts and a walk. With the game tied at 2-2 in the top of the sixth, the Trailblazers had two on with one out. An infield error led to two unearned runs, and after MCLA tacked on two more runs in the top of the seventh, Bard loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh but didn't score.
Senior Tyler Benoit (North Adams, MA) struck out eight and gave up two runs over five innings, plus he went 2-for-3 with two RBI. MCLA is 4-2.
Bard got two hits apiece from
Alec Montecalvo,
Dylan Long and
David Schlosser - Long and Schlosser drove in one run apiece.
In the second game, an 8-run second inning did the Raptors in. Bard was down 11-0 before plating two in the fifth and three in the sixth.
Quinn McInerney went 2-for-4 with a two-run double,
Adam Carafotes went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI, and
David Schlosser went 2-for-4 and stole two bases.
The Raptors head home on Wednesday. They host St. Lawrence University this weekend in a four-game Liberty League series at Honey Field, Bard's new turf facility. Follow all four games via Live Stats or Live Video.
