COBLESKILL, N.Y. - Something had be said at halftime. It apparently was. Then something had to be
done after halftime. That happened, too.
The Bard College men's basketball team outscored SUNY Cobleskill 37-17 in the second half to earn a 64-51 non-league victory on Tuesday night.
After leading for much of the first half, the Raptors (2-1) were outscored 22-7 over the final eight minutes and trailed, 34-27, at the break.
Bard came out flying in the second half, scoring the first 12 points to vaporize the Fighting Tigers' lead, and it eventually became a 19-4 run. Bard led, 46-38, with 11 minutes to go.
But the hosts scored the next six points to trim the lead to 46-44 with 7:20 remaining. Bard's next three possessions put the game away for good.
A three-pointer by
Caleb LaRosa was made it 49-44, a three-pointer by
Harry Johnson made it 52-44, and a jumper from
Emmanuel Rainey made it 54-44 with 4:29 left on the clock. Cobleskill (0-7) didn't get closer than seven the rest of the way.
The second half stats tell the story. Cobleskill shot 60 percent from the field in the first half, and 20 percent from the field in the second half. After scoring 14 first-half points off of Bard turnovers in the first half, the Fighting Tigers got
none in the second half.
Cobleskill got 12 points from sophomore Malik Chambers (West Point, NY) and 10 from sophomore Frank D'Esti (Vestal, NY).
Bard was led by freshman
Armando Dunn, who finished 15 points, nine rebounds, two assists and three blocks. Rainey added 12 points, six rebounds and six assists; LaRosa finished with 12 points and five rebounds.
DeVahnte Mosley contributed six points, three rebounds and five steals.
Not much rest in store for Bard, which hosts Hartwick on Thursday night in another non-league game. Hartwick just beat Cobleskill over the weekend, 96-80, by making 20 three-pointers.
