Squash team wins pair; off to best start in program history

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's squash team dominated for the second straight day in its Round Robin Tournament, defeating Penn State, 8-1, and Swarthmore, 8-1.

With four victories this weekend, the Raptors are off to the best start in program history (5-1), and the Bard record for victories in a season is eight.

After sweeping Lafayette and Siena on Saturday, the Raptors did get a stiff challenge from Penn State, although the 8-1 final score doesn't really tell the story.

It took a 12-10 win in the fourth game for freshman Rhys Nordstrom to win at No. 1; Abe Etkin won a fifth game 12-10 to previal at No. 5, while No. 6 Asad Hashmi and No. 8 Vikramaditya Joshi battled through four games to win their matches. Even matches that were sweeps for Bard, like Jack Smiith at No. 3 for example, went 12-10, 11-6 and 11-9. At No. 7, Pranjal Ghate won 12-10, 11-9 and 12-10. That's the kind of match is was.

Nine of the 10 matches against Swarthmore were over in three games. Julian Dime won in five at No. 4.

Several Bard players went 4-0 this weekend: Ayateru Maeda, Jack Smith, Abe Etkin, Asad Hashmi, Pranjal Ghate, Vikramaditya Joshi, Satwik Srikrishnan and Rishabh Badoni.

The Raptors will have a chance to go for a school-record fifth straight win when they host Brandeis on Sunday.
