WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Bard College women's volleyball team swept the University of Saint Joseph on Thursday evening in a non-league contest.
The set scores were 25-19, 25-15 and 25-20.
Bard was up 19-12 in the first set before the hosts pulled within 23-19, but the Raptors prevailed. In the second set, Bard jumped out to a 6-0 lead and never relinquished it, thanks to eight kills from freshman
Sofia Koukia with two errors on 15 attempts. And in the third set, the Raptors took charge after a 9-9 tie, squashing a late rally from University of Saint Joseph to clinch it, 25-20.
Sarah Lipinski (Farmington, CT) and Tiffany Mapusaga (Waianae, HI) led the Blue Jays with five kills each, while Lipinski had 17 digs. Carly Ruzbasan (Torrington, CT) and Kara Klimaszewski (Naugatuck, CT) each had nine assists. University of Saint Joseph is 10-13.
Koukia paced the Raptors with 10 kills along with three digs, while Tytravia Riley and Kristen Westerduin finished with six kills apiece. Victoria Chou had 27 assists, eight digs and four aces. It was the 15th time this season that Chou has had 20 or more assists in a match. Philippine Alba had 16 digs and Daniella Azulai had 14 - they each had nine in the third set alone. Alba also had three aces.Bard (11-18) travels to face Brooklyn College on Saturday afternoon. The match is set to begin at 1 p.m.
