Box Score 2 ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Bard College baseball team lost both ends of a doubleheader against Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday morning, losing the first game, 15-1, and the second game, 9-7.
The twinbill was supposed to include one seven-inning game and one nine-inning game, but the second game was shortened to 6 1/2 innings by rain.
The Tigers (8-4, 3-1 Liberty League) banged out 13 hits and cruised to victory in Game 1 behind a three-hitter from sophomore Brandon Cohall (Cortlandt Manor, NY). RIT scored five unearned runs in the second, keyed by a 3-run double by senior catcher Walt Roman (Spencerport, NY). Ronnie Canestro (East Amherst, NY) doubled and drove in four runs.
For Bard,
Adam Carafotes doubled and scored the Raptors' only run.
In Game 2, Bard fell behind 6-0, rallied to take the lead, 7-6, then lost 9-7 when RIT scored three times in the bottom of the sixth.
It was 6-0 after two innings, but Bard rallied in the top of the fourth. With one out and
Dylan Long on first and
Quinn McInerney on second,
Adam Carafotes singled to make it 6-1.
Alec Montecalvo followed with an RBI double, and
Zach Ward drove in two with a single to make it 6-4. Later, with two outs and runners on second and third,
JP Fisher singled to give Bard a 7-6 lead.
It stayed that way until the bottom of the sixth, when RIT put up three runs two hits and two errors. Bard didn't score in the top of the seventh, and then the rains came.
Montecalvo and Carafotes each had two hits in the second game, while Fisher and Ward each drove in two runs.
Gabe Kleiman gave up four earned runs over five innings, striking out three and walking three. The Raptors are 3-9-1 overall, 0-3-1 in the Liberty League.
