ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Bard College baseball team came ever so close to winning its first Liberty League game on Saturday, but the University of Rochester pulled out a doubleheader sweep, winning the first game, 3-1 in extra innings, and the second game, 7-6.

Rochester is 12-12, 8-6 in the Liberty League. Bard is 3-12-1, 0-6-1.

The first game was a pitcher's duel, with Bard freshman Dylan Long and sophomore Michael Mondon (Westfield, NJ) earning the starts. Long gave up one run on four hits over seven innings, but the Raptors were down, 1-0, and being no-hit by Mondon entering the bottom of the seventh (and last) inning.

In the bottom of the seventh, Alec Montecalvo broke up the no-hit bid with an infield single to short. Adam Carafotes followed with a sacrifice bunt, which moved pinch-runner Tom Danz to second base. After a walk to Zach Ward, Jack Hawke singled to score Danz and tie the game. Rochester closer Evan Janifer (Montclair, NJ) induced a double play to end the inning and send it to extras.

Rochester took the lead in the top of the eighth. Sophomore Jake Meyerson had the big hit with a two-run single off reliever Aaron DePetris to make it 3-1. Bard got a runner on but didn't score in the bottom of the eighth and lost, 3-1. DePetris took the loss and Janifer got the win.

In the second game, Bard grabbed a 5-0 lead with a five-run bottom of the second - three unearned. JP Fisher had an RBI single and Gabe Kleiman drove in a pair with a single.

Zach Ward gave up a run in the third, but held Rochester at bay until the top of the sixth. With Bard holding a 5-1 lead, an error and a double gave the Yellowjackets runners on second and third with no out. Fisher relieved Ward, who gave up one earned run on five hits and two walks over five innings.

Brian Munoz greeted Fisher with an RBI single to make it 5-2. Later, with two outs, Rochester cut it to 5-3 on a wild pitch, to 5-4 on an infield single by Josh Ludwig (Victor, NY), and tied it on a bases-loaded walk by Dan Warren (Fairfield, CT). Lance Hamilton (Nashville, TN) then singled to right to drive in two, and it was 7-5 going to the bottom of the sixth.

It stayed that way until Bard's last at-bat, the bottom of the seventh. Quinn McInerney walked and moved to second on a fielder's choice. Harrison Forman reached on an error, putting runners on first and third with one out. DePetris sacrificed, scoring McInerney with a bunt and moht ving Danz, who was pinch-running again, to second base with two outs. Janifer caught Fisher looking to end the game, 7-6.

Fisher took the loss and Janifer earned his fifth save.

Fisher and Kleiman each had two hits; Fisher doubled and Kleiman drove in a pair. Forman had two hits including a double.
