Raptors swept by Dominican in non-league match

Freshman Shane McDonald had one kill, one ace and four digs against Dominican on Saturday.

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's volleyball team lost to Dominican University, 3-0, in a non-league match on Saturday afternoon.

Set scores for the winners were 25-18, 25-10 and 25-23.

Dominican is a first-year program and one of three new members of the powerful Midwest-based Continental Volleyball Conference. The Stars improved to 6-6 with the victory and will play Vassar and top-ranked New Paltz on Sunday at New Paltz as part of their Eastern trip.

Dominican jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first set and an 11-3 lead in the second and wasn't really challenged until the third set, which went down to the wire, but Bard couldn't pull it out.

The Stars produced 14.5 total blocks - includimg 10 from freshman Aidan Spangler (Western Spring, IL) - to Bard's none. Also, Dominican hit .400 as a team, and Bard hit .011.

Jeremy Royko (Naperville, IL) led Dominican with nine kills; Joe Marchese (Orland Park, IL) had 21 assists, and Brooks Nevrly (Downers Grove, IL) had nine digs.

Bard (4-16) got nine kills and eight digs from Billy Williams, 23 assists from Henry Kasiske, and eight kills and three digs from Jesse Small.
