SCHENECTADY, N.Y. - The Bard College men's basketball team lost to Union College, 84-73, in a Liberty League game on Wednesday night.
Bard outscored Union 9-3 over the first three-plus minutes of the second half to tie the game at 41-41, but hot-shooting Union responded with a 10-0 run, and Bard didn't get closer than eight the rest of the way.
Union is 8-12 overall, 5-7 in the Liberty League. Bard is 5-17, 0-13 in the Liberty League.
The Dutchmen scored the first six points of the game, and the rest of the game was characterized by Union slightly stretching that lead, then Bard closing the gap. It repeated several times over the course of the first 20 minutes. Bard trailed by as much as 11 and by as little as two before going into half down, 38-32.
After tying it with 16:40 to go in the game, the Raptors went cold, going 0-for-3 from the field with four turnovers during Union's 10-0 run. Although Bard didn't have a poor shooting night (45 percent), Union was consistently good from the field, finishing at 53 percent. The Dutchmen never trailed.
Five players scored in double figures for the winners, led by sophomore William Hython (Syracuse, NY), who had 16 points and 14 rebounds.
Bard got 19 points from
Lamar Powell, and 13 apiece from
Siondueh Burnette and
Pat Lichtenstein. Burnette led Bard with eight rebounds.
