BRONX, N.Y. - A 10-2 run to start the second half broke open a close game, and Lehman College held off a late run to defeat Bard College, 65-54, in a non-league game on Saturday afternoon.
Bard jumped out to an 11-4 lead in the first few minutes, but Lehman responded and led 29-25 at the break. Although the first 20 minutes was evenly played, the Raptors' 13 turnovers were clearly a problem.
It continued in the second half, but this time it really cost them. The Lightning (3-1) held Bard to just seven points in the first nine minutes of the second half to take a 49-32 lead. It was still a 17-point lead with about five minutes left, but the Raptors (2-2) made one more push.
Bard's 12-4 run cut Lehman's lead to 59-50 with 2:16 left, but the hosts made their foul shots down the stretch to put the game away.
In the end, it was Lehman's 29 points off of 26 Bard turnovers that were the difference in the game. Junior Jerrome Jones (Bronx, NY) led the winners with 20 points and eight rebounds.
Bard got 14 points from
Pat Lichtenstein and 11 from
DeVahnte Mosley. Junior center
Brandon Cunningham added nine points and seven rebounds, and
