ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team lost to Brooklyn College, 3-1, in a non-league match on Saturday afternoon.
It was the last home match for seniors
Lexi Cooper and
Amy Kassowitz, and for junior
Rebecca Speckenbach, who is in Bard's 3+2 dual-degree Engineering program and will attend Columbia in the fall. Coach
Stefanie Carrington spoke warmly of each of them before the match, and it was a tightly contested affair.
Brooklyn won 25-22, 10-25, 26-24 and 28-26. The winners got 11 kills from Yelizaveta Malysheva (Kiev, Ukraine) and 16 digs from Sasha Roopchand (Moruga, Trinidad). The Bulldogs are 10-19.
Bard (3-29) got six kills, 12 digs and three aces from
Philippine Alba, four kills and 12 digs from
Amy Kassowitz, and seven kills and seven digs from
Tytravia Riley. In her final home game,
Lexi Cooper had four kills and 23 assists.
Bard has three matches remaining in the 2014 season. They'll play Baruch, Hartwick and Plattsburgh State at the Dig Pink Invitational hosted by SUNY Oneonta next weekend.
