ONEONTA, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team almost pulled off an upset on Friday night, falling to Baruch, 3-2, at the Dig Pink Invitational.
The Raptors (3-30) won the first and third sets to grab a 2-1 lead, but the Bearcats (13-15) rallied and prevailed. Set scores for Baruch were 23-25, 25-18, 21-25, 25-14 and 15-10.
Baruch got a huge game from freshman Akilah Meulens (Philipsburg, St. Martin), who had 14 kills and hit .524. She was one of three Baruch players with double-digit kills.
Bard got a big performance from junior
Tytravia Riley, who had 15 kills, 18 digs and two blocks.
Philippine Alba added eight kills and 18 digs,
Lexi Cooper had 26 assists, and
Amy Kassowitz led the team with 19 digs.
Bard has two matches remaining in the 2014 season as the tournament continues. The Raptors will play Hartwick on Saturday morning at 10 and Plattsburgh at noon.
