Raptors fall twice, but take a set from RIT for first time

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team dropped a pair of Liberty League matches to open the final weekend of conference play at Rochester Institute of Technology on Friday night.

They still made a little history.

After losing to Union, 3-0, Bard took a set from host RIT before falling, 3-1. It's the first time Bard has taken a set from RIT since joining the Liberty League in 2011, and it's the second set Bard has ever taken in conference play. Both have come this month.


Union beat Bard 25-19, 25-14 and 25-7. For Bard, Tytravia Riley had five kills and three digs, Philippine Alba had four kills and five digs, and Lexi Cooper had 11 assists.

RIT defeated Bard 25-15, 25-17, 22-25 and 25-20. After winning the third set, Bard fell behind 10-2 in the fourth set. The Raptors cut it to 14-13, then fell back to 18-13. They had one more push and cut the lead to 22-20, but RIT hung on, 25-20

Riley had five kills, eight digs and five total blocks, and Lexi Akingbade added five kills and three totals blocks. Cooper had 11 assists and Amy Kassowitz contributed three aces and seven digs.


The Raptors (3-26, 0-10 Liberty League) will play Vassar and Skidmore, respectively, at RIT on Saturday.
