ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's basketball team has played some Liberty League thrillers so far this season, but Friday night wasn't one of them.
An 11-0 run over the last 5:10 of the first half gave St. Lawrence University a 12-point halftime lead, and Bard didn't get closer than 11 the rest of the way, going down quietly, 73-48.
The Saints (6-7 overall, 2-2 Liberty League) dominated the boards, outrebounding Bard 20-7 in the first half and 43-22 in the game. It resulted in a lot of good looks for the Saints, who responded with 47 percent shooting from the field. A whopping 18 offensive rebounds led to a dozen second-chance points, and the game wasn't competitive after halftime.
It didn't help that Bard's 6-foot-8 sophomore center
Brandon Cunningham didn't play with an ankle injury, and it got worse when 6-5 Atuk Berk went down with a knee injury five minutes in. The resulting smaller lineup shot 36 percent from the field.
Five players scored in double figures for the winners, led by freshman Kyle Edwards (Norwich, NY), who had 15 points and four assists. Senior Al Jones (Newark, NJ) added 13 points, Brady Conlin (Massena, NY) and Kyle Kobis (Elma, NY) added 12 each, and freshman Kieran Miller (Montclair, NJ) came off the bench to add 10 points and 10 rebounds in 23 minutes.
Bard (5-9, 0-5 Liberty League) got 15 points from senior
Lamar Powell.
Siondueh Burnette added seven points, four rebounds and five blocks.
