Bard's Maddy Huggins, center, and Margot Kalach Hanono (11) battle Albertus Magnus senior defender Shannon Skidmore for position on a free kick in the first half of Sunday's game.
Box Score ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - It was so hot and humid, and the pace was so fast, and the ending was so intense, that an incredible statistic was buried and forgotten by the time the women's soccer match between Bard and Albertus Magnus ended on Sunday.

In the 30th minute of the first half, Bard freshman goalkeeper Kelsey O'Brien stopped a penalty kick by Albertus Magnus senior Amanda Roke (Cheshire, CT). How many keepers can say their first collegiate save was on a PK?

In the end, however, it was Roke who scored the game-winner in a 2-1 non-league win over Bard. And it wasn't without controversy.

Bard (0-1) got a goal on a great individual effort by sophomore Sylvia Kool five minutes into the second half to tie the game at 1-1. Although Bard had the better of the possession in the second half and outshot the Falcons 10-5 in the final 45 minutes, Roke took a cross from Meaghan Skidmore (Terryville, CT) and volleyed it past Bard's second-half keeper, Lily Harris, to give Albertus Magnus at 2-1 lead in the 76th minute.

The Raptors pushed forward in a frenzied attempt to tie. Kool hit the crossbar with an arching shot in the 82nd minute. Then, with the final seconds ticking away, Hallie Nolan's corner kick with 10 seconds left was run onto by Brianna Bean, but her shot was saved by keeper Maria Case (West Haven, CT). The rebound found the feet of Bard striker Maddy Huggins, and her shot was stopped and cleared at the line goal line by an Albertus Magnus defender.

With the Bard bench screaming for a hand ball, the horn sounded and the game ended.

Bard outshot Albertus Magnus (1-1) 17-10 on the day, and the Falcons' only shot on goal of the second half went in. O'Brien had three saves; Case had six for the winners.

Up next for Bard is a non-league home game against SUNY Cobleskill on Wednesday night at 7. You can follow that contest via Live Stats right here.
