LAKE KATRINE, N.Y. - Bard College freshman Ryan Conklin tossed a complete game four-hitter, striking out eight and walking two over seven innings to lead the Raptors to a 7-1 victory over John Jay College on Tuesday night, as the teams split a doubleheader.

John Jay (5-22) won the first game, 7-6.

Conklin held the Bloodhounds, whose only run was unearned, to four singles. He also went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks and two runs scored. Bard jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first on a pair of bases-loaded wild pitches and an RBI single by Tom Danz. It was 6-0 after two innings because Bard scored on a wild pitch, a bases loaded walk by Danz, and an infield error.

After John Jay got an unearned run in the fourth, Bard made it 7-1 on an RBI groundout by Steve Kovalcik. Danz went 3-for-3 with two RB I and Adam Flowers went 3-for-4 in that game.

In the first game, Bard (5-15) rallied from an early deficit. Single runs in the first, second and third innings (two unearned) made it 3-0 for John Jay entering the fourth. Starter Alec Montecalvo drove in a run with a single, and Bard took the lead, 4-3, by tacking on three runs on a pair of infield errors.

A fielder's choice RBI by Danz and another wild pitch gave Bard two more runs in the fifth, when the Raptors had a 6-3 lead, but it unraveled in the sixth.

An RBI infield single by Estaban Soler (Long Island City, NY) made it 6-4, and a two-out, bases-loaded double by Jose Fernandez (New York, NY) gave the Bloodhounds a 7-6 lead they didn't relinquish.

Conklin went 2-for-3 with two runs scored; Montecalvo went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Up next for Bard is a road doubleheader at Cazenovia College on Sunday beginning at 1 p.m.
