Box Score POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Bard freshman
Mary-Elizabeth Clair scored a total of eight goals in her first two college lacrosse games, but she has missed the Raptors' last two games with an illness.
Junior
Stephanie LaMont, who led Bard with 29 goals last season, has been perfectly willing to let the freshman share the scoring load. But with Clair out, LaMont apparently has taken it upon herself to fill the void.
LaMont scored five goals for the second straight game, leading Bard to a 9-5 win over SUNYIT in non-league game played at nearby Marist College on Friday night.
Bard (3-1) dominated early, scoring the game's first six goals - four by LaMont - and led, 7-1, at halftime. SUNYIT (0-3) played better in the second half and cut the deficit to 8-4 at one point, but LaMont added a final tally with 1:35 left in the game to provide the icing on the cake.
The Raptors were 12-for-12 on clear attempts in the first half and 18-for-20 in the game. Bard also had a decided edge in ground balls (34-24) and draw controls (12-4).
Joanna Regan added three goals for Bard, and defender
Hallie Nolan scored again - her fourth goal in four games. Regan added six ground balls, eight draw controls and she caused five turnovers.
Brianna Bean was also all over the place, picking up eight ground balls and forcing four turnovers.
Maddy Huggins made five saves.
The Wildcats, who outscored Bard 4-2 in the second half, got two goals from sophomore Jenna Lashua (Heuvelton, NY).
Bard is headed to the Boston area this weekend as part of Spring Break. The Raptors will play at Emmanuel College on Monday and at Regis College on Tuesday before returning home to begin Liberty League play late next week.
