Box Score 2 ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's volleyball team has taken some tremendous beatings already this season, due to the fact that they're in the United Volleyball Conference, which includes seven of the top 15 teams in Div. III in the country right now.
So the Bard Raptors Tournament gave them an opportunity to dish out a little pain themselves. They did.
Bard won a pair of matches on Saturday, making them 3-0 in the tournament. Still, they finished as runners-up to Sage, which not only won all three matches it played, but it didn't lose a set.
Bard opened play on Saturday with a marathon five-set victory over Keuka College, 21-25, 26-24, 25-20, 18-25, and 15-10.

It was a loud, intense match in which Bard found itself down a set and trailing, 22-20, in the second set, before the Raptors woke up. After pulling out the second set, 26-24, Bard got up 15-10 in the third set and didn't relinquish the lead, winning it 25-20.
Keuka (2-7) responded by jumping out to a 10-4 lead in the fourth set, and Bard never got over the jump, getting as close as 17-15 before dropping the set, 25-18.
The Raptors (5-11) got down 5-2 in the decisive fifth set, scored six straight points to make it 8-5, then saw Keuka draw even at 8-8. Bard outscored Keuka 7-2 the rest of the way and walked off weary winners, with yet another match to play against Berkeley 30 minutes later.
Bard swept Berkeley, 3-0, by set scores of 25-11, 25-21 and 25-20. The match was never really close.

In the match against Keuka,
Billy Williams had 20 kills and six digs;
Zack Nussdorf had 10 kills and five digs;
Kai Bernier-Chen had nine kills, five assists and 19 digs;
Henry Kasiske had 43 assists and 14 digs; and
Daniel Gagne contributed 18 digs in the victory. Nussdorf hit .500.
Against Berkeley, Williams had 15 kills, Nussdorf had nine (.571), Kasiske had 35 assists and Gagne led the Raptors with 10 digs.
It's back to the UVC on Wednesday, when Bard travels to nearby Poughkeepsie for a 7 p.m. match against 14th-ranked Vassar on Wednesday.
