ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - For the first time since the 2003-04 season, the Bard College men's basketball team will go into Winter Break with a .500 or better record.

On Thursday night, the Raptors dispatched Albany College of Pharmacy, 76-64, to improve to 4-4. They have matched last season's win total (4-21) and won't play again until Jan. 4.

Bard shot 45 percent from the field in the first half and had everything working. The guards made seven three-pointers, the post players were passing, scoring and rebounding well, and it was 47-30 at halftime.

It didn't help Albany Pharmacy (4-6) that one of its top scorers and rebounders - 6-5 sophomore Ryan McVaigh (Ballston Spa, NY) - went to the bench with a knee injury 11 minutes into the game. He had already produced nine points and four rebounds by then, but he couldn't continue.

In the second half, Bard pushed the lead to 21, but a 13-3 run over an eight-minute span cut the deficit to 11 with 6:45 to go. The Raptors pushed back and Albany Pharmacy never got closer than 10 in those last few minutes.

Senior Lamar Powell led Bard with 25 points, and three other players scored in double figures. Alex Fabean-Scotch made four three-pointers and finished with 14 points, four assists and three steals. Siondueh Burnette made the most of his 20 minutes with 12 points, six rebounds and three blocks. And sophomore Brandon Cunningham added 10 points, seven rebounds and two assists - also in 20 minutes.

The Panthers got 25 points from senior Casey Redfern (Binghamton, NY) and 10 points and seven rebounds from sophomore Michael Beyer (Clifton Park, NY).

Bard will begin January with a non-league game against Maritime College, then play 16 straight Liberty League games to complete the regular season. The Liberty League slate will kick off with a visit from RPI on Jan. 14.
