Bard succumbs to RPI's pressure

Chris McNaughton had 15 points in Bard's loss to RPI on Tuesday night.
Box Score TROY, N.Y. - The plan, if it works, creates chaos on the basketball court. Turnovers, missed layups, confusion, fatigue ... it's mayhem out there.

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute entered Tuesday night's game against visiting Bard as the top-scoring team in the Liberty League, averaging 87 points per game in the conference. But the Engineers had also given up 84 points per game, more evidence of the track meet environment they try to create every time they play.

By the time Bard figured out how to effectively score amidst the chaos, the game was over. RPI ran out to a 17-5 lead in the first 10 minutes and cruised to an 80-56 victory.

Box score

Bard turned the ball over 13 times in the first half and trailed, 32-14, at the break. They were outscored just 48-42 in the second half, but the season-high 29 turnovers were far too much to overcome. The game was never close.

RPI (9-6 overall, 4-2 Liberty League) got points from 13 different players, and nobody played more than 15 minutes. Chris Almodovar (El Paso, TX) led RPI with 12 points, and senior Daniel Martin (Cohasset, MA) added 10.

Bard (4-11, 1-7 Liberty League) got 15 points from sophomore Chris McNaughton, and 13 points, three rebounds and seven assists from junior Lamar Powell.

Up next for Bard is a trip up North. They'll play at Hobart on Friday night at 8, then at Rochester Institute of Technology on Saturday at 4. Follow those games via Live Stats or Live Video right here.
