Box Score ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - It rained, it poured, the wind blew a little bit, and temperatures dipped.
As the women's soccer game between Clarkson and Bard wore on, all of the players were soaked, most were covered with mud and were freezing, and after 110 minutes of soccer, they each had to settle for a 0-0 draw.
As if on cue, the rain stopped when the game ended.
While it was raining, though, it was as entertaining as a 0-0 soccer game could be, with each team producing a couple of close calls around the goalmouth.
Box score
Bard (4-5-1, 0-0-1 Liberty League) had the better of the play early, producing four shots to Clarkson's none in the first 25 minutes. But possession and chances eventually evened out, and the Golden Knights (4-2-2, 0-1-1 Liberty League) actually had the edge in the second half.
Bard's best chance to score in the first half came in the 17th minute, when
Alana Shaw got her foot on a rebound, and the rolling shot was cleared off the line by defender Ashley DeHond (Penfield, NY).
Clarkson's best chance to score came in the 59th minute, when senior Katie VanDeValk struck a volley from high in the box off a corner kicked that hit the bottom of the crossbar and came down inches from the goal line before it was cleared away.
With both teams exhausted and time winding down in the second overtime, Shaw was pulled down just outside the box on a breakaway in the 106th minute. Freshman
Isabel Keddy-Hector took the ensuing free kick, and the low shot clanged off the far post before being blasted away by the Clarkson defense.
In the end, shots were even at 12-12, and Bard had a slight edge in corners, 7-6. Kim Kenline (Akron, NY) made four saves for Clarkson;
Lena James made six saves for Bard.
Bard hosts St. Lawrence on Saturday at 2; Clarkson plays at Vassar on Saturday at 2. Vassar defeated St. Lawrence on Friday, 3-2, in double overtime.
