Box Score UTICA, N.Y. - The Bard College women's lacrosse team encountered something on Saturday it hadn't in its previous three games of 2012:
Adversity.
When SUNYIT junior Veronica Metz (Morrisville, NY) scored her second goal of the game, Bard was down, 5-2, with about five minutes left in the first half. It represented Bard's largest deficit of the young season, and the Raptors were looking at the possibility to being down at halftime for the first time this year.
But then they suddenly woke up.
Freshman
Joanna Regan scored three goals over the next five minutes to make it 5-5 at halftime, and Bard stormed to a 14-7 victory by outscoring SUNYIT 9-2 in the second half.
Senior
Farah Akhtar and Regan each scored in the first minute of the second half, and although SUNYIT cut the lead to 7-6, Bard never looked back. The Raptors (4-0) scored seven of the game's last eight goals, outshooting the Wildcats, 26-10 in the process - 11-3 in the second half.
Regan finished with six goals, sophomore
Stephanie LaMont added four goals, and Akhtar added three goals an an assist. Freshman
Reed Mango scored once, and sophomore
Brianna Bean and
Victoria Fleisher each had two assists.
SUNYIT, a first-year varsity program, is 0-3.
Bard, 4-0, next hosts Mount Saint Mary College on Wednesday. The game is tentatively scheduled for 8:30 p.m. at Dietz Stadium in Kingston, but the game could be moved to Bard. Keep an eye on the Bard web site to check for a site and venue change for that game.
