ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Bard College men's volleyball team came within inches of winning its first-ever match in the United Volleyball Conference, but came up just short on Sunday.
The Raptors lost to Hilbert College, 3-2, on Sunday morning, then lost to No. 9 Medaille, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon. The UVC Crossover at Nazareth ended with Bard still winless in the UVC at 0-9, and 6-14 overall.
They almost got it done against Hilbert (2-8 UVC, 6-14 overall). Hilbert won the match, 3-2, by set scores of 25-19, 25-23, 20-25, 23-25 and 15-13. Statistically it was among the best games some of Bard's players have ever had.
Senior
Nick Chan had 19 kills (.350) and 13 digs; sophomore
Henry Kasiske had six kills, 39 assists, 10 digs and three aces; sophomore
Billy Williams led the team with 14 digs; and senior
Brice Ormesher had 11 kills and 11 digs. Bard hit .243 as a team to Hilbert's .226, but the Hawks pulled it out in the end.
Later, Bard threw a scare into ninth-ranked Medaille, pushing the Mustangs in both the second and third set. Medaille won 25-14, 26-24 and 27-25. Chan had 10 kills and five digs, Kasiske had 25 assists and four digs, and
Eliah Gardner contributed eight kills, four digs and three blocks for the Raptors. Medaille is 7-3 in the UVC, 16-3 overall.
Next up for Bard is a non-league tri-meet at Yeshiva University with SUNY Purchase on Sunday.
