ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College men's volleyball team may have left the Skyline Conference for the United Volleyball Conference ... but they still can't get away from Sage.
The former Skyline foes advanced to the title match of the Bard Raptors Tournament by each winning twice on Friday, the first day of the tournament.
Bard defeated NYU-Poly and Mount Ida by 3-0 scores, and Sage advanced by topping SUNYIT, 3-0, and Lasell, 3-1.
The Raptors (7-8 overall) beat NYU-Poly by set scores of 25-22, 25-19 and 25-21. Bard hit .500 in the first set and .382 for the match. Senior
Nick Chan led the winners with 16 kills (.467), nine digs and two blocks.
Henry Kasiske handed out 31 assists and also contributed nine digs, and
Andrew Cortrite had eight kills and six digs before going down with an ankle injury. He's doubtful for Saturday.
Sophomore Fild Kroqi (Bronx, NY) led NYU-Poly with 14 kills. The Fighting Blue Jays are 5-9 after splitting two matches Friday.
Against Mount Ida, Chan had 10 kills,
Brice Ormesher had six kills and seven digs, and Kasiske led the team with 15 assists.
Junior Spencer Hastings (Orlando, FL) led Mount Ida (1-7 overall) with seven kills.
Bard has played Sage seven times over the last three seasons, including in its opener this year, a match won by Bard, 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-20). Bard has won all seven of those matches, but Sage is currently riding a school-record five match winning streak.
