JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Bard College men's volleyball team lost to Lehman College, 3-2, and to host New Jersey City University, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon in a non-league tri-meet.
Since winning their first five matches of the season, the Raptors (5-7) have lost seven in a row.
Against Lehman, after Bard won the first set, 31-29, Lehman took the second set, 25-14. Bard pushed Lehman to the brink with a 25-22 win in Set 3, but the Lightning took the fourth set, 25-23, and the deciding fifth set, 16-14.
Nick Chan led Bard with 25 kills (.362) and 13 digs, while
Ryan Fallon added 11 kills and
Andrew Cortrite had 10.
Henry Kasiske had 44 assists, 12 digs and two aces, and
Billy Williams contributed 12 digs.
Lehman (7-4) got 47 assists and 20 digs from sophomore Miguel Gallardo (Bronx, NY) and 27 kills (.460) from junior Brian Francisco (Bronx, NY).
New Jersey City topped Bard by set scores of 25-18, 25-19, 21-25 and 25-13.
Chan had 13 kills and eight digs, Williams had six kills and eight digs, and Kasiske handed out 28 assists. The Gothic Knights (7-7) hit .545 in the fourth set, while Bard hit .000.
For NJCU, freshman Besmir Arlani (Wayne, NJ) had 14 kills and 12 digs.
Bard returns to United Volleyball Conference competition on Wednesday, with a match at No. 8 Stevens Tech at 7 p.m.
