HOBOKEN, N.J. - Bard knew getting into a new, better, tougher league in men's volleyball would have its ups and downs.
So far, they've been just downs. After the first United Volleyball Crossover meet of the season, Bard is 0-4 in the UVC (5-4 overall) after losing to Penn State-Behrend and D'Youville College on Sunday at Stevens Tech.
Penn State-Behrend was winless entering the day - in fact, this is the Lions first-ever season with men's volleyball as a varsity sport - but they had pushed No. 15 SUNY New Paltz to five sets on Saturday. On Sunday, the Lions earned the first win in the program's history, beating Bard 3-1, by set scores of 25-17, 25-18, 23-25 and 28-26.

Sophomore Grant Kocher (McMurray, PA) led the Lions with 13 kills. Penn State-Behrend is 1-3 in the UVC, 1-9 overall.

Three teams left the weekend with unblemished UVC records so far: Elmira, Stevens Tech and NYU are each 4-0 in the league. NYU will visit Bard on Wednesday night at 7. The Bobcats were ranked No. 7 in last week's American Volleyball Coaches Association poll. The new poll will be released Tuesday.
