Almost six years ago, the men's basketball team from California Institute of Technology made national news when it snapped a record 207-game losing streak with an 81-52 victory over Bard College.

On Saturday night, the teams met for the first time since, and Caltech did it again, outscoring Bard 5-0 over the last 1:51 to win, 60-59, this time to snap a 25-game losing streak.

The biggest lead for either team in the second half was four, and when Frank Stortini made a twisting layup with just under two minutes left, Bard went up 59-55. That's when Caltech senior Michael Edwards (Canyon Country, Calif.) stole the show.

With 1:31 left, Edwards hit a three-pointer to cut Bard's lead to one. After a Bard turnover, he sank a jumper from just inside the arc to give Caltech a 60-59 lead with 38 seconds left in the game.

On Bard's next possession, Siondueh Burnette missed a short shot inside, and Caltech sophomore Bryan Joel (Bethesda, Md.) grabbed the rebound and was fouled. He missed the front end of a one-and-one opportunity with 17 seconds left, so Bard had the ball again down by one.

Junior Lamar Powell's layup attempt was blocked out of bounds by sophomore Andrew Hogue (Arroyo Grande, Calif.) with 6.5 seconds left, giving Bard another opportunity to win it. But Stortini struggled to find an open player on the ensuing inbounds play under the basket, and Edwards eventually stole a long pass out beyond the top of the key, dribbled toward Caltech's basket, then turned and ran out the clock, setting off the celebration.

Bard (3-4) led, 26-25, at halftime after limiting the Beavers to 37 percent shooting, but Caltech shot 56 percent in the second half. Edwards led the way by scoring 15 of his game-high 17 points in the final 20 minutes. Caltech is 1-10.

Bard got a career-high 16 points from Powell. Stortini had 10 points and seven rebounds; Jeremy Arnstein added 10 points, and Burnette finished with eight points, five rebounds and three blocks.

The Raptors begin Liberty League play next week. They'll play at Skidmore on Jan. 4 and at Union on Jan. 5.
