Drew pulls away, Bard loses home opener

Sophomore Chris McNaughton led Bard with 20 points on Sunday.
Box Score ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Drew University men's basketball team doesn't try to hide the fact that they live and die with the three-point shot. They take a lot of them, sometimes they make a lot of them, and when they don't, the result usually isn't good.

On Sunday at Bard, they made 4-of-18 three-pointers ... but 25-of-29 foul shots and ruined Bard's home opener, 65-51.

Box score

It was a six-point game at halftime, with Drew up 34-28. But that lead grew right away in the early minutes of the second half because Bard went stone cold from the field. The Raptors went 0-for-6 in the first five minutes and it was 42-28 in favor of Drew with 14:43 left in the game.

Bard (1-2) cut the deficit to nine three different times, but never got closer. The Rangers (3-4) made their foul shots (14-of-17 in the final 20 minutes) and harrassed Bard into a 7-of-31 performance from the field in the second half. The Raptors had shot 48 percent in the field half.

The winners got 20 points and seven rebounds from junior Luke Glass (Rumson, N.J.) and 18 points and 12 rebounds from sophomore Chris Capelli (Manasquan, N.J.)

Bard got 20 points, three rebounds and four assists from sophomore Chris McNaughton, and 12 points, eight rebounds and four blocks from sophomore Siondueh Burnette.

Up next for Bard is a non-league game at St. Joseph's-Brooklyn on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. That game can be followed via Live Stats.
