Bard splits day two of UVC crossover tournament

Junior libero Andrew Cortrite had 22 digs in a victory over Hilbert College.
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Bard College men's volleyball team split two matches on Sunday at a United Volleyball Conference crossover meet at Vassar College.

Bard defeated Hilbert College, 3-1, on Sunday morning, then was swept, 3-0, by Elmira College in the afternoon. Bard went 1-2 at the crossover event and is 12-9 overall.

Against Hilbert (1-17), the Raptors got off to a slow start, losing the first game, 25-12. Bard responded, however, and swept the next three sets 25-23, 25-22 and 25-22.

In that match, junior Nick Chan (Victor, N.Y.) had 13 kills and hit .320, junior Brice Ormesher (Chicago, Ill.) added 10 kills, freshman Henry Kasiske (Los Angeles, Calif.) had 38 assists and eight digs, and junior libero Andrew Cortrite (Los Angeles, Calif.) had 22 digs.

Later against Elmira (6-17), Bard lost the first set, 26-24. Elmira took the next two sets and the sweep, 25-20 and 25-17.

Bard is 2-7 in the UVC, but will resume Skyline Conference this week with home matches against Mount St. Vincent on Tuesday and Yeshiva on Thursday. Both matches are at 7. The Raptors are 3-0 in Skyline play.
