Box Score ITHACA, N.Y. - Bard College women's lacrosse team scored first and scored last, but Wells College did most of the scoring in between.
Wells defeated Bard, 13-9, at Ithaca College on Sunday in a non-conference game. The Raptors are 1-1.
Freshman Courtney Grosser (Penfield, N.Y.) scored four goals for Wells, as the Express ran out to an 8-2 lead at halftime. It was 13-4 with 14:59 left in the game when the Raptors made a run.
Junior
Jessica Philpott (Hot Springs, Va.) scored at 14:03, junior
Farah Akhtar (Karachi, Pakistan) scored less than a minute later, and freshman
Brianna Bean (Kaneohe, Hi.) scored two minutes after that to make it 13-7 with 11:24 left in the game.
By the time Bean scored again, however, there was just over five minutes left and it was just too little, too late. Sophomore
Bridget Reddington (Caldwell, N.J.) scored her second goal of the game with 90 seconds left, but Bard lost by four goals.
The Raptors outscored the Express 7-5 in the second half, and held them scoreless over the last 15 minutes of the game. Wells is 2-2 overall.
Freshman
Stephanie LaMont (Skippack, Pa.) led Bard with three goals - giving her seven for the weekend. Bean and Reddington had two each. Bean and LaMont also had one assist apiece. Senior goalie
Hannah Becker (Wayne, Pa.) made seven saves for Bard.
The game was close statistically. Each team collected 20 ground balls; Bard had 21 turnovers to Wells' 23; Wells had 27 shots to Bard's 26.
Bard's next game is on Thursday at Vassar College at 4 p.m.
