ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — The Bard College women's lacrosse team could not establish a rhythm early, falling 2-24 to the William Smith Herons on Saturday afternoon at the Ferrari Soccer & Lacrosse Complex.
In her first game this year,
Kayla Francis scored her first goal of the season, adding two ground balls.
Eva Hersey had an assist and led the team with three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Gwendolyn Jamison scored Bard's other goal, making the most of her opportunities.
Lexie Blackburn recorded 14 saves and a ground ball.
Ella Perreault posted two ground balls and a draw control.

Morgan Kottka led Bard in draw controls, with two, and she added two ground balls and a caused turnover.
Carmen Merrick chipped in a draw control.
The ground ball battle was close in the first period, at 6-5 Herons. However, William Smith made their imprint on the scoreboard with eight goals. In the second period, Bard was 3-for-3 on clears. The offense got going, as Francis scored an unassisted goal with 49 seconds remaining in the half.
In the third period, Blackburn racked up seven saves, but the Herons continued to work on increasing the advantage. The Raptors closed out the game with a goal, as Hersey dished to Jamison for a score at the 1:01 mark.
On Tuesday at 6 p.m., Bard will travel to Union.
