ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - So far, it's been a wonderful weekend for the Bard College men's volleyball team.

After breezing to a pair of wins on the first day of the Bard Raptors Tournament, Bard defeated Mount Ida College, 3-0, for the title on Saturday. All that's left now is for Bard to play two more matches on Sunday, at Yeshiva with Polytechnic Institute of NYU.

Bard won by scores of 25-23, 25-15 and 25-19. Junior Nick Chan (Victor, N.Y.) and freshman Henry Kasiske (Los Angeles, Calif.) were named to the All-Tournament Team, and junior libero Andrew Cortrite (Los Angeles, Calif.) was named Most Outstanding Player.

The title match was closer than the 3-0 score would indicate. Mount Ida (5-11 overall) rallied several times in a nip-and-tuck first game which saw seven ties, the last one at  23-23. From there, consecutive kills from senior Erik Shagdar (New York, N.Y.) and Chan put the game away.

The second set was tied, 6-6, before Bard (9-7 overall) won 12 of the next 15 points, including two kills from Chan and two more from junior Ryan Fallon (Ridgewood, N.Y.). The Mustangs rallied to made it 18-12, but they made four straight errors to kill their own rally, and a Brice Ormesher (Chicago, Ill.) kill ended that game, 25-15.

In the third set, Mount Ida held a slight edge for most of the game, and the eighth tie of the set was at 18-18. After a pair of Mount Ida hitting errors, Bard freshman Billy Williams (Livingston, N.J.) produced his only two kills of the match, and the Raptors pulled away to win 25-19.

Chan finished the day with 13 kills (.280), two aces and four digs. Ormesher had 11 kills (.250) and eight digs; Kasiske collected 35 assists and seven digs, and Cortrite had nine digs.
