ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The third-ranked Stevens Tech men's volleyball team overpowered Bard on Wednesday night.
The Ducks dispatched Bard, 3-0, by scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-12 to improve to 9-3 overall, 2-1 in the United Volleyball Conference. Bard fell to 6-7 overall, 1-5 in the UVC.
The first set was tied five times - the last time at 11-11 - before Stevens ran off 10 of the next 13 points. Bard managed a brief rally to cut the lead to 23-16, but the Ducks held them off.
The Raptors held a short-lived lead for a few minutes at the start of the second set, but once again Stevens took control, building a five-point lead. After a kill by
Nick Chan (Victor, NY), Bard got to within 19-15, but never closer.
In the third set, Stevens dominated. Bard hit a poor .076 in the set - after hitting .285 and .307 in the first two sets, respectively - and Stevens came away with a victory.
Chan led Bard with eight kills (.238), while junior
Brice Ormesher (Chicago, IL) added six kills. Freshman setter
Henry Kasiske (Los Angeles, CA) had 24 assists (.359). And junior
Andrew Cortrite (Los Angeles, CA) had 10 digs.
The Raptors next play on Saturday in a Skyline Conference meet at Sage with SUNY Purchase and Mount St. Vincent.
