Volleyball team loses pair at home

Junior Cara Chalk had 48 kills combined in two matches on Saturday, but Bard lost both.
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. - The Bard College women's volleyball team lost a pair of matches at home on Saturday, falling to Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, 3-2, and City College of New York, 3-1.

In the first match, MCLA defeated Bard, 14-25, 25-23, 27-29, 25-20 and 15-10. Junior Cara Chalk led Bard with 23 kills, while senior Jessica Philpott added a career-high 13 kills, as well as 10 digs. Freshman Lexi Cooper dished out 44 assists and also contributed eight digs, but the Raptors couldn't hold on after taking a 2-1 lead. Junior Julia Denning had a game-high 21 digs in that match.

CCNY defeated Bard, 25-19, 25-20, 21-25 and 25-19. Chalk was impressive again, producing 25 kills and hitting .357 for the match. Sophomore Mai Aurell-Foulser added 11 kills; Cooper had 31 assists; and Denning had 16 digs.

In another match, MCLA defeated CCNY, 3-1. At the end of the day, MCLA was 7-15; CCNY was 4-18; and Bard was 3-17.

Next up for Bard is a return to the Liberty League with a match at Vassar on Wednesday at 7.
