RECAP: Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match with CCNY and Pratt

Bard earns first tri-match sweep since 2023

ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College women's volleyball team defeated CCNY 3-1 and Pratt 3-0 in their home tri-match on Saturday at Stevenson Athletic Center. It was the first sweep in a tri-match since September 16th, 2023.

Bard had key contributors across the board. Penelope Joosten Lingo had a career-high seven aces against CCNY, adding three against Pratt. She also racked up 36 total digs and seven assists. Isis Pribble had 15 kills, 14 digs, and four aces. Fernanda Julian posted 33 assists, 14 digs, four aces, and a kill. Xenia Vassou collected 17 kills to lead the team, three blocks, three digs, and an ace. Paola De La Cruz recorded 25 assists, five kills, three digs, and a block.

Ava Rhinehart had 12 digs, nine kills, four aces, three blocks, and an assist. Gia Gomez tallied eight kills, three blocks, two digs, and an assist. Adrianna Howell notched 13 digs, two assists, and an ace. Alex Beer chipped in eight kills, seven digs, and two blocks. Against Pratt, Kylah Demers picked up a kill, and Nala Roman contributed ten kills and a dig.

The Raptors travel to Cobleskill on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Bard 3, CCNY 1

CCNY went ahead 5-1 and did not trail after that point in the first set, although Bard tied it up at 11-11 and 18-18. In the second set, the Raptors started to turn the match around. They started out winning seven of the first ten points. CCNY knotted it up at 11-11 before a 7-1 Bard run allowed the Raptors to take control. Bard hit .273 in the frame compared to CCNY's .161.

Bard continued to use the momentum from the second set in the third, surging ahead 10-4. The Beavers had a strong run to take a 16-14 advantage, but three straight from Bard steadied the ship. The Beavers held a one-point lead at 21-20 when the Raptors turned it up and won the final five points.

A strong 11-5 start by Bard was crucial to sealing the match. CCNY got to within three at 12-9, but a Bard 9-2 run made it 21-11. The Beavers fought to the end with three straight, but Vassou came in clutch with two kills in the final 4-0 Bard run.

Bard 3, Pratt 0

Pratt started the match with an ace, but Bard went on an 11-3 run to go ahead by seven. Pratt won 10 of the next 13 points, to make it 14-13, but the Raptors responded with six straight points of their own. An ace from Rhinehart later in the set made it 23-15. The Cannoneers struck back with four straight points, but Bard closed it out with the final two points.

After hitting .226 in the first set, Bard hit an even better .261 in the second en route to a well-played set. The Raptors started out with a 4-1 lead, helped by two aces from Pribble. Bard extended it to eight after having a string of eight of nine points go the home team's way. The advantage was trimmed to three at 14-11, but it never got closer than that, as Bard rattled off four straight points. The Raptors won five of the last seven points to get the job done.

The Raptors fought some adversity in the third set, going down 8-6. However, a kill from Gomez and back-to-back aces from Julian ignited a 13-2 run that Pratt could not recover from. Pratt took a timeout during a 4-0 Bard run that flipped the score from 20-12 to 24-12, a healthy lead. The Cannoneers saved two match points, but Bard prevailed 25-14, tying its largest margin of victory on the day.
