BRONX, N.Y. - It was a struggle, but it was a victory.
The Bard College men's volleyball team got up, 2-0, on Lehman College on Saturday, then hung on for dear life on the way a 3-2 non-conference win. The game scores were 26-24, 27-25, 21-25, 19-25 and 15-13.
In each of the first two sets, Lehman had set points and couldn't put them away. Bard trailed 24-21 in the first set, and 24-22 in the second set, but managed to win both.
Still, Lehman responded by winning the next two sets, as Bard's hitting percentages dipped in sets 3 & 4 (.120, .068), and in the fifth set, it was nip and tuck the whole way. Bard actually trailed, 13-11 in that final set before rallying to earn the win.
A kill from junior
Nick Chan (Victor, NY) made it 13-12, then with Chan serving, Bard got a kill from senior Max Howard (Lafayette, CA) to tie it at 13-13. It became 14-13 after a bad set by Lehman, and Bard clinched it on an attack error by Lehman.
The Raptors (4-3 overall) got 12 kills (.360) and six digs from senior Eli Strauss (Queens, NY), 13 kills (.267) and five digs from Chan, 46 assists and nine digs from freshman
