Men's volleyball team swept at Vassar

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Bard College men's volleyball team took on local rival Vassar College on Tuesday night, and Vassar came out on top, 3-0.

The Brewers (2-2) were more accurate and efficient passing and attacking, racking up higher percentages in both categories in all three games. Vassar won 25-20, 25-23 and 25-17.

Vassar was led by senior Evan Fredericksen (Menlo Park, CA), who had 18 kills, three aces and a .412 attack percentage. Sophomore setter John Konow (Chicago, IL) had 33 assists and six digs, while sophomore libero Christian La Du (Westhampton, NY) contributed 14 digs.

Bard (3-3) got 31 assists and eight digs from freshman setter Henry Kasiske (Los Angeles, CA), 14 digs from junior libero Andrew Cortrite (Los Angeles, CA), and six kills and a .545 attack percentage from junior Ryan Fallon (Ridgewood, NY).

There were five ties in the first set, but Vassar eventually broke an 18-18 tie with four straight points en route to a 25-20 win.

Vassar got out to an 8-1 lead in the second set, and it was 20-10 before Bard won eight of the next 10 points to cut the lead to 22-18. Bard got as close as 24-23, but Vassar prevailed in that set, 25-23.

In the third set, Vassar jumped out to a 7-1 lead, then 20-10, before breezing to a 25-17 win. The Raptors had only eight kills in the third set and six attack errors.

Bard's next match is at Lehman College on Saturday at 2 p.m.
