OLD WESTBURY, N.Y. - The Bard College men's basketball team got down, 10-0, in the first three minutes and never threatened afterward in an 81-41 Skyline Conference loss to SUNY Old Westbury on Saturday afternoon.
The Raptors went 0-for-3 from the field and turned the ball over once in that first three minutes, and it was a precursor of things to come. Bard (1-16 overall, 1-11 Skyline) shot 27 percent from the field in the game, while Old Westbury (9-7, 6-4 Skyline) shot 48 percent and outrebounded Bard, 46-24.
Bard turned the ball over 16 times, and those turnovers led to 24 points for Old Westbury.
The Panthers had four players score in double figures, led by freshman forward Matthew Duffy (Smithtown, NY), who finished with 20 points and seven rebounds.
Nobody reached double figures for Bard. Junior
Matt Shubert (West Chester, PA) and freshman
Alvaro Llanes (New York, NY) each scored eight points. Senior
Christian Marghella (Closter, NJ) added six points and five rebounds, and sophomore
Frank Stortini (Red Hook, NY) chipped in with seven points and four rebounds.
Bard's next game is at home on Wednesday night at 8 against Mount Saint Mary College.
