RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Bard College's men's volleyball team defeated The College of Mount Saint Vincent, 3-2, to capture the 2010 Skyline Conference Championship on Sunday.
The Raptors defeated Yeshiva University in the semifinals by a score of 3-1 (26-30, 30-25, 30-28, 30-25).
Nick Chan (So., Victor, NY) led the team with 21 kills (.457), while
Henry Schenker (Sr., Verona, NJ) contributed 17 kills (.270) and
Eliah Gardner (So., Chatham, NY) added another 14 kills (.435).
The Raptors then faced the top seed and host, Mount Saint Vincent, which was undefeated in Skyline action this season. The match was a back and forth battle, with the Dolphins taking set 1 (30-21), the Raptors rebounding and winning sets 2 (30-22) and 3 (31-29), and then the Dolphins forcing a fifth and deciding set by winning set 4 (30-13).
Bard captured the conference crown by winning the deciding set by a score of 15-12.
The Raptors were led by team captains as Chan and Schenker contributed triple-doubles in the match. Chan recorded 15 kills, 24 assists and 12 digs, while Schenker added 13 kills, 17 assists and 16 digs. Gardner and
Elijah Strauss (Jr., Queens, NY) turned in great defensive performances, with each recording 12 digs.
Schenker was named the Skyline Championship Tournament Most Valuable Player.
