Bard blitzed by tournament host Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Skidmore College men's basketball team is known for taking a lot of three-point shots. It's also known for making about 29 percent of them.

On Saturday afternoon in the first round of the Hilton Garden Inn Tournament at Skidmore, the Thoroughbreds went 8-for-17 from beyond the arc (47 percent) in the first half and cruised to an easy 87-48 victory.

Bard, 0-7 overall, matched a season low in points (48) and a set a season high in turnovers (22). Skidmore had an 8-2 lead after three minutes and the game never got any closer.

Skidmore, 4-1 overall, never trailed. They had eight steals and 12 assists in the first half alone en route to a 44-17 halftime lead. The Thoroughbreds had five players score in double figures, led by senior guard Jeff Altimar (Medfield, MA), who had 15 points, five rebounds and four assists.

For Bard, junior Matt Shubert (West Chester, PA) had 15 points, and senior Christian Marghella (Closter, NJ) added 10.

The Raptors will play Sunday at 1 p.m. in the consolation game against Thomas College. The Terriers rallied from a 16-point deficit to force overtime, then lost to Utica College, 94-90, in Saturday's second game.
