Dave Sloan is in his third season at the helm after arriving at Bard in August of 2023.
In his second year as the Raptors’ head coach, the program went 13-12, with an 8-10 record in the Liberty League. Lazaros Panagiotounis was named to the All-Liberty League First Team and earned All-Met Honorable Mention. Also, Azriel Almodovar was named the Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year. On the academic side, two players were named to the Liberty League All-Academic team as well as the CSC Div. III Academic All-District team.
In his first year at the helm, the program had their best ever finish at 14-12, finishing sixth in the Liberty League. The Raptors played in the first round of the Liberty League playoffs for the first time since the 2018-19 season. Lazaros Panagiotounis was named to the All-Liberty League Second Team. On the academic side; five players were named to the All-Academic Team, two were named to the CSC Div. III Academic All-District Team, the team earned their second consecutive NABC Team Academic Excellence Award and had seven Raptors receive Honors Court.Â
Sloan arrived at Bard from Carnegie Mellon, where he was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for four seasons and was elevated to associate head coach and recruiting coordinator in 2022. As the head recruiter for the Tartans, he was responsible for developing, organizing and maintaining a national recruiting plan, recruiting from 14 different states.Â
As the associate head coach in 2022-23, Sloan helped the Tartans qualify for its first Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Playoffs since 2017. In his time with CMU, he mentored seven players to All- University Athletic Association (UAA) honors, including post player Trent Suddeth, who led the UAA in rebounding, guard Colin McNeil, who led the nation in assists per game, and R.J. Holmes, who was named UAA Sophomore Rookie of the Year, becoming the third Tartan to receive the UAA Rookie of the Year accolade.
Before Carnegie Mellon, Sloan was the assistant coach and head recruiter at Maine Maritime Academy. While at Maine Maritime, Sloan coached two 1,000-point scorers and the first player in program history to record a triple-double.
Before coaching the Mariners, he was an assistant coach at Boyertown Area High School in Boyertown, Pennsylvania. In addition, Sloan has coached at numerous camps, including Yale University, All-Academic Basketball Camps, the Tom Izzo Basketball Camp at Michigan State University, and more.Â
Sloan is a 2014 graduate of Alvernia University with a Bachelor of Science in athletic training. While at Alvernia, he was a four-year player for the Wolves basketball team and graduated Magna Cum Laude. He continued his education at Alvernia and was a graduate assistant athletic trainer before earning his master's in business administration in May 2016.
