The Bard College men's soccer team won against the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons on Wednesday evening, 1-0.
Neither team was able to generate a scoring opportunity for the first 15 minutes. 17:26 into the game, Sarah Lawrence took a long range shot, and
Jake Sudit hopped up to save it. Bard broke through at the 30:18 mark with a goal.
Charalambos Vattis's cross found
Luca Costanzo on the opposite side of the box, who settled it down nicely and sent a screamer to the top of the net. His shot straight down the middle sailed over the keeper's head.
In the second half, Bard started out with the edge, generating a corner at the 48:47 mark. On the ensuing set piece,
Wolfe Ginsberg got a shot off that was saved. Just under three minutes later,
Emmett Olson took a chance at goal, but he couldn't find the netting. At the 74:42 mark, Bard had a golden opportunity to take a 2-0 lead. A pass pinballed around in the box and found Olson, who headed it on goal. The ball deflected out to
Henry Skeltis, who had his attempt blocked. To end the flurry of shots,
Devon Green headed one in the direction of the goal but the goalkeeper was in the right place at the right time to make the save.
Sudit finished with one save, and
Julian Landau played the second half in goal without facing a shot. Skeltis and
Evan Baukol each played the full 90 minutes.
Bard plays SUNY Morrisville on the road at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday.
