ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College men's soccer team defeated the UMSV Dolphins, 2-1, on Saturday afternoon at Ferrari Field for its fifth consecutive win to start the season.
In the first half, UMSV started with a bulk of the possession, but it couldn't break through.
Jake Sudit had key saves at the 11:07 mark and the 22:40 mark. Instead, Bard had a counter-attack in the 29th minute, allowing for back-to-back corners. The first one went short and nothing was available, but on the second one, Olson's kick went off the UMSV goalkeeper's hands and into the net. The Dolphins were penalized by four offsides calls, slowing down their attack. With just over two minutes in the half remaining, the Raptors got a second goal, as
Marios Savva followed up a first shot with a second that found the netting. His goal was assisted by fellow first-year
Gavin Flemming.
Sudit was tested early in the second half, as he saved a one-on-one shot from point blank range at the 49:53 mark. In the 70th minute, Savva had a chance to solidify the result with a shot from the left side, but he couldn't make solid contact with it. UMSV was able to get one goal with 3:33 left, but that left too little time for a comeback. Bard's insurance goal in the first half proved to be crucial, as the one-goal margin of victory stood.
Bard embarks on a three-game road trip, starting on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Sarah Lawrence.
