RECAP: Henry Skeltis penalty goal secures the win against Mount Saint Mary

The Bard College men's soccer team took down Mount Saint Mary in their season opener with a penalty kick goal from Henry Skeltis on Tuesday night. 

A team that is heavily a senior group, with 10, and first-year heavy with seven, the Raptors came out strong, outshooting the Knights with 9-5 shots and a 6-2 shots-on-goal advantage. Four shots came from Skeltis, two shots from Frankie Perera-Modica and a shot each from Luca Costanzo, Pablo Ortega and Colin Mott. 

The Raptors' lone goal came from a penalty from Skeltis. Leading up to the goal, Aren Andrews found the through pass by Perera-Modica on the top of the circle in the second half with 31 minutes left. The Mount Saint Mary defender thought it was a clean tackle inside the box but instead the Raptors were awarded a penalty. Skeltis fired his shot to the bottom left side of the goal for his first goal of the season and seventh in his career. 

Jake Sudit and Julian Landau split goalkeeping duty, with both of them getting a save each. Mount Saint Mary had a 9-6 corner kick advantage. 

Bard will have its home opener on Saturday against SUNY Canton at 2 p.m.; this is their first of four straight home games.
