ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College men's soccer team defeated SUNY Canton, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon on a sunny day at Ferrari Field for its home opener. 

The Raptors controlled much of the match offensively, finishing with 16 shots, including five on goal, while limiting the Kangaroos to six shots and three on target. Bard also earned six corner kicks compared to three for SUNY Canton. 

After a scoreless opening half, Bard continued to apply pressure and finally broke through in the 57th minute. Frankie Perera-Modica delivered a beautiful ball from the left side of the box that Henry Skeltis redirected into the path of Emmett Olson. Olson finished the sequence with a header past the SUNY Canton goalkeeper to give the Raptors the 1-0 advantage. Skeltis and Perera-Modica were both credited with assists on the goal. 

Bard remained composed after taking the lead and continued to create opportunities, including three shots in a span of 12 seconds in the 65th minute. Marios Savva put one of those chances on frame, forcing a save from the Canton goalkeeper. 

On the other end, the Raptors' defense stood strong as SUNY Canton searched for an equalizer. Goalkeeper Jake Sudit made two saves in the second half, including a leaping stop in the 87th minute, to preserve the clean sheet. Sudit finished with three saves overall to earn his second shutout of the season. 
Olson led Bard with three shots and two on goal, while Savva added three shots. Skeltis and Perera-Modica each recorded two shots to go along with their assists.

Bard returns to Ferrari Field on Monday, Sept. 7, when the Raptors host CCNY at 6 p.m.
