RECAP: Women’s Lacrosse Outdone by Salve Regina

The Bard women's lacrosse team fell to the Salve Regina Seahawks on Wednesday afternoon in Hilton Head, SC, 2-17.

Rian Sullivan contributed a career-high two goals and a ground ball. In goal, Lexie Blackburn had a season-high 15 saves and two ground balls. Fae Johnson was tied for the team-high with two ground balls. Ella Perreault had an assist to Sullivan.

Gwendolyn Jamison had a team-high two caused turnovers and a ground ball. Astrid Tillberg and Electra Wilmerding each tallied a ground ball and a caused turnover.

Carmen Merrick collected a ground ball, a caused turnover, and a draw control. Julia Champagne debuted and had a caused turnover plus a draw control. Lily Seale chipped in a caused turnover.

The first period was scoreless for 1:56, but Salve Regina scored three goals in the span of just over three minutes, keeping possession through draw controls. A defensive stretch ensued, with no goals from either side for the next nine minutes. However, another flurry by the Seahawks gave them a 7-0 lead after one.

The lead was stretched to eight after a free position goal from Salve Regina at the 13:40 mark. Bard's defense and goalkeeping held for the next 11 minutes, with three saves and four ground balls in the period. However, the Seahawks added on late, and Bard did not score from any of its four shots.

Blackburn stalled Salve Regina in the beginning third period, collecting five saves. This allowed Bard to get on the attack, with Perreault finding Sullivan for the first goal out of halftime at the 12:30 mark. Salve Regina finished the period strong, with three goals.

Sullivan capitalized on a free position opportunity at the 13:53 mark, getting redemption after missing a shot moments earlier. The Seahawks did not let up, scoring right after, and tacking on three more between the 9:03 and 6:15 marks.

Bard hosts Rochester on Friday at 5 p.m. to kick off the Liberty League campaign.
