RECAP: Women’s Basketball Drops Road Contest to Skidmore

The Bard College women's basketball team held a lead in the second quarter, but the Skidmore Thoroughbreds completed a comeback win on Friday evening, 54-29.

Lexi Miller had a game-high 15 rebounds, four points, and two steals. Shirley Dong contributed a game-high five steals, six points, and four rebounds. Aislynn Dixon ended the night with a team-high seven points, a career-high five assists, two rebounds, a block, and a steal.

Ava Gregory tallied five points, four rebounds, and two steals. Erin Tobes recorded five points on four shots, two rebounds, and an assist. Jessica Martin made her first start of the season and put up a well-rounded statline of two points, four rebounds, two assists, a steal, and a block.

Skidmore opened the game with a make on its first possession, but Bard took a 5-2 lead on a three off a sideline inbounds play for Dong. With solid defense, the Raptors kept the lead for the remainder of the quarter, although it was a one-possession game the whole period. Bard held Skidmore to six points in the quarter on 3-of-16 shooting.

The Raptors were aggressive to start the second and were able to gain a seven-point lead at 16-9. During this 7-1 stretch, Gregory had two shots from long distance, however, she had her foot on the line for one of them, making it a long two. The Thoroughbreds slowly chipped away, and they took the lead at the 1:42 mark. Overall, Skidmore went on a 15-1 run over the final 4:59 to take a 24-17 lead into halftime.

The third quarter was dominated by the Thoroughbreds. They charged forward, going on a 13-1 run in the first 4:30. Bard got to within 16 after a Dong three made it 23-39, but a four minute scoring drought prevented any further comeback. In the fourth quarter, Skidmore was able to continue running their offense with little problem, and Dixon's two threes in the period were too little too late for Bard.

The Vassar Brewers await Bard in Poughkeepsie for a game tomorrow at 2 p.m.
