The Bard College men's soccer team kept its winning ways rolling on Wednesday afternoon, powering past Old Westbury 4-1 at Panther Park to move to 6-1-0 on the season. The Raptors controlled the match from start to finish, showcasing an explosive attack and a defense that held firm when it mattered most.
Bard opened the scoring in the 17th minute when
Luca Costanzo slotted home a pass from
Pablo Ortega, setting the tone early. After halftime, the Raptors extended their lead as
Mateo Betelu skillfully passed through three defenders and converted in the 52nd minute to make it 2-0. Betelu has either scored or assisted in four consecutive games for the Raptors.
Old Westbury cut into the deficit in the 58th minute, but Bard quickly regained control of the match, with
Sam Gerber netting in the 75th minute from a pass by Steketee. Costanzo struck again in the 80th to put the game out of reach with a long shot from the left-hand side that went over the goalkeeper's head and to the top right-hand corner of the goal.
The Raptors dictated the tempo throughout, outshooting Old Westbury 23-9 and putting 11 shots on target. Bard's defense also impressed, limiting the Panthers to just five shots on frame and keeping pressure off the back line.
Bard will be back on Saturday as they take on Morrisville at 2 p.m. The Raptors will host the Rhinebeck Youth Soccer team for Youth Day.
