ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College men's soccer team extends its winning streak to six as the Raptors defeated Morrisville, 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Lorenzo Ferrari Field.
Bard got first-half goals from
Luca Costanzo and
Mateo Betelu, and a late goal in the second half from
Pierre Deliso to seal the victory.
Bard held the edge in total shots (18-to-10) and corner kicks 8-to-2 and maintained a large possession advantage in the first half. The Raptors' defense remained sharp throughout the afternoon, limiting Morrisville to just three shots on goal, which all occurred in the second half. Liberty League Rookie of the Week,
Jake Sudit, made all three saves to keep the clean sheet.
Costanzo opened the scoring in the 13th minute with a beautiful header goal on the top left corner off a corner kick by
Ben Steketee. The second goal came from a penalty kick that Betelu converted with 30 seconds left in the first half. Betelu slipped it past the Mustang's goalkeeper, on the bottom left corner, for his seventh goal of the season and his fourth consecutive goal in eight games. Bard had a 56% possession of the ball in the first half and did not allow Morrisville to get a shot on goal.
In the second half,
Pierre Deliso scored his first collegiate goal for the Raptors in the 82nd minute. A corner kick taken by
Emmett Olson found the foot of Costanzo, who then crossed it inside the box, and tapped towards Deliso, who then found the back of the net.
This marks the first time Bard started 7-1 in eight games, and the first time since 2015 to hit seven wins in a season.
Bard will have their Liberty League opener at home next Saturday when it faces Hobart at 2 p.m.
