ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Bard College baseball team defeats Union in Game 2 of the doubleheader, 4-3 with a sacrifice fly RBI by Gavin Gonzalez after falling in Game 1 in a close match-up with the Garnet Chargers winning 4-3 on Friday afternoon at Honey Field.

Both series games were a battle of the pitchers with both teams capitalizing on the pitchers and defensive errors. Bard's game 1 starting pitcher, Kane Morgan, had his best performance of the season with a season-high six strikeouts, and allowing only three hits in 7.0 innings pitched. Game 2's starting pitcher, Bryant Elliott, had to adjust his pitching but still struck out four batters in 7 innings of work. Aiden Kiefer got his first collegiate win as he came in for Elliott in Game 2 when the game was tied at 3-3 heading to the top of the eighth. He struck out two batters, allowed one hit, and only walked one batter in two innings of work.

Jimmy Famularo led the team with four hits on the day. Sam Dumper, Xavier Webb and Elias Grosfoguel had three hits on the day with Webb having a run in each game. Gonzalez had a team-high four RBIs, two each game and had two hits too. Mike Lynch had two hits, a run and a hit in Game 1, while Rob DeBello had a hit and Johnny O'Connor drew a walk in Game 2.

Bard will close the series at Union on Monday at 6 p.m.

Game 1: Union 4, Bard 3

The first two innings was a 1-2-3 out from both pitchers. Union scored first in the top of the third with a back-to-back RBI double with two outs to go 2-0. Bard answered with a run in the bottom of the inning with an RBI single to center field by Lynch.

Bard took the lead in the bottom of the sixth with a two-RBI double to right field by Gonzalez to clear the bases and take a 3-2 lead. However, Union tied the game in the top of the eighth with a sac-fly RBI. The Garnet Chargers kept the momentum going as Noah DiCaprio hit a solo home run to left field to give Union the 4-3 lead. Bard had the tying run in the bottom of the ninth as Famularo drew the walk but the Raptors could not find the hit to drive home Famularo.

Jackson Sprinzen and Dylan Conte both came in as relief pitchers. Conte struck out two batters.

Game 2: Bard 4, Union 3

Union took an early lead with two runs in the top of the first and another run in the top of the third to go 3-0. Bard answered in the bottom of the fifth with a single by Webb and then a hit by pitch by Plenn to have two runners in scoring position. Gonzalez doubled to right field to bring home Webb and got the Raptors on the board.

DeBello then brought home Plenn on an RBI single to right field to get within one by Union. With two outs, Famularo doubled to left field to bring home DeBello and tie the game 3-3. Both teams did not have a runner on base until Bard had a hit by pitch and a walk in the bottom of the eighth to have runners in scoring position but could not drive a run home. In the top of the ninth, Union had two runners in scoring position but Kiefer stayed composed and got the third out with a fly out to right field.

Bard had the top of the lineup heading to the bottom of the ninth with Dumper leading the charge with a double to right field, then Webb singled to the left side to have runners on the corners. Plenn battled during his at-bat and got a hit-by-pitch to load the bases with no outs. Gonzalez had a 3-1 count and hit a deep fly ball to right field which allowed pinch runner, Jeremy Hall to go home and the Raptors to walk it off.
