ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. — The Bard women's tennis team celebrated its two seniors,
Maya Kelly and
Victoria Bagatcholon, as they took on the Vassar Brewers on Sunday afternoon for their last game of the season.
At No. 1 doubles, Kelly and
Paige Houghton forced deuce multiple times, holding game points against the Brewers' lead duo.
Jesse Radzik and
Patricia Santos shook off some early nerves at No. 2, but the Brewers' momentum carried them over the finish line. At No. 3 doubles, Bagatcholon and
Lisa Kyrtoka teamed up for the fourth time this season, but could not get enough returns in play to get the win.
At No. 1 singles, Kelly earned a game off of Vassar's top player in the first set, but the Brewer's consistency improved in the second set to prevent a comeback. At No. 2 singles, Houghton finished last on court, gritting through cross-court rallies and getting a game in set two.
At No. 3 singles, Bagatcholon took a game against Vassar for the first time in two attempts, fighting hard to get on the scoreboard. Santos played at No. 4 singles and faced a challenging opponent who drove shots with strength.
Radzik forced her opponent to work for each game, but Vassar's placement was too difficult to overcome. At No. 6 singles, Kyrtoka broke her opponent's serve to stay in the match, but she couldn't hold her serve, resulting in a Brewer victory.
